"I trust your reviews" -> music to my ears.

I was wondering if I was sounding too, TOO positive but I am so f-cking picky about what I pick up that actually it makes sense that I would like what I read.

Happy June reading!

Every time a book starts to feel super hyped, the kid in me gets triggered and I want to resist it but this one is a true piece of art. My brief notes don't do it justice.

It looks like you had a great reading month! I really want to read Giovanni’s Room, I've heard so many great things and your review has cemented to me that I need to read it asap. I'm also intrigued by The Vulnerables and On Earth we’re briefly gorgeous 🤎

I've had a James Baldwin autobiography on my shelf for years that I've never read. You're making me think it's time to finally crack it open.

Thanks for mentioning our Mrs Dalloway read. You've been so kind and generous in getting the word out and supporting my (very new) substack.

Like you, I read part of Levy's living autobiography and then began to cast around for one of her novels. So far the one I've liked most is 'Swimming Home.' Completely knocked my socks off. In fact, I think I liked it more than the autobiography.

Re novels by poets: have you read Martyr! By Kaveh Akbar? Beautiful and has stuck with me. I did half print, half audio, enjoyed both.

Wow wow wow, what a list. I haven’t read a single one of these yet but they are all on my radar. Thank you for this!

I read several of your May books and “On Earth we’re briefly gorgeous” floored me. So so good. I was in Vietnam when I read it and it inspired me so much.

Not a novel but written by a poet and a great read: “You could make this place beautiful” by Maggie Smith.

Like Amani I am super intrigued in Exhibit! So glad to hear you loved it so much - what a great reading month! Also, surprisingly, like the sound of ‘The Vulnerables’ - I say surprising bc I wouldn’t have gravitated towards it but you make it sound great!

This is such a good list!! I want to read Sloane Crosley’s and you’ve got me thinking I should do the audiobook.

Definitely. There were parts that were so so sad but then, it's Crosley... so there were so many laugh out loud moments... At some point she is talking about how inappropriate Russell was and she shares a story about him telling an assistant that she looked like she "went into Talbots and asked for the sexiest thing they had in the store." 🙊😂😂😂

Thanks, Petya! I love how you review books and found several I'd like to try! I am also totally amazed at how many books you read in a month!

If you saw the state of my house, you would be less surprised hahah It's truly my most favorite thing to do in the entire world but I don't read this many every month.
