’s book Filterworld that first made me nostalgic for early 2000s internet culture and then self-conscious about having fallen victim to the flattening of internet culture so vividly described in the book. Chayka’s recommendation is to look for ways to “resist frictionless algorithmic consumption” and in doing so, revive that sense of discovery and connection that many of us oldsters miss from those early internet days.
