Issue 09: What to do when you want to change your job but are not ready to job search just yet
Some thoughts on how to stop feeling stuck when springing into action is the last thing on your mind
Three months after I started my current job, I got promoted. The promotion was not a surprise, it was a big part of the conversations we had before I started. It was a promise that was made to me - contingent on performance - and it was written in my contract. Of course, it wasn’t a given and I never took it for granted. I have been working very intentionally to leave no space for questions, I never wanted anybody to have any doubts that I deserved it. This whole experience has been the most life affirming, empowering period of my professional life. Many days - not all, but most - I catch myself giggling about something I am working on or in a conversation with a team member. And I have developed enough mindful awareness around this to be able to pause and notice that it’s happening and say to myself - I can’t believe that I am getting paid real American Dollars to do this. A lot of it is challenging it many ways but it feels so fun. I made a GOOD decision.
